The Idea behind Compute

Compute conference was started to bring together researchers and practitioners working in the area of information management and knowledge services. There has been an explosive growth of digital content, handheld devices and vast networks of sensors have become ubiquitous. As a result of these developments, massive amounts of data and information is being created and made available to us. Many people call this Information Overload. "Information overload" term was popularized by Alvin Toffler in his bestselling 1970 book Future Shock. This information overload phenomenon is hindering human understanding and decision making. The task of extracting, analyzing and storing relevant information and making it available at the right time poses formidable technological challenges, many of which remain unsolved. Making sense of information available and processing it to make decision requires us to develop INTELLIGENT AND SCALABLE SYSTEM TECHNOLOGIES. This was the theme of COMPUTE 2012. Compute 2012 had two tracks Knowledge and Information Retrieval Track and High Performance Computing track. The conference chairs delivered keynote talks. Prof. R. K. Shyamasundar delivered the HPC track keynote, while Prof. Deepak Khemani delivered the KIR track keynote. One paper per track was judged and awarded as the best paper.
